Sanmon at Nanzen-ji Temple

Sanmon at Nanzen-ji Temple

We arrived in front of Nanzen-ji's Sanmon during an intense downpour in this April 2008 photograph. The Nanzen-ji main gate was originally constructed in the 13th century but was intentionally destroyed in 1369. It was eventually reconstructed in 1628. One of the interesting features of this gate is its second story, which one is permitted to visit after having purchased a ticket.
